Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

There is a big difference between my preliminary task and my music magazine, my music magazine looks much more professional compared to my preliminary task. This is because i have developed my skills in things like photoshop.

My contents page:

Here is my preliminary task compared to my music magazine contents page:

As you can see there is a difference in they way look. My music magazine contents page looks more professional in almost every aspect. The way my music magazine contents is set out it is much more tidy compared to my preliminary contents page. My masthead on my music magazine is a better size and fits in better with the rest of the things on that page, whereas on my preliminary task my mast head doesn't really stand out as much and the text is too small. The text in my music magazine has improved because i learnt from my preliminary task that the writing should be smaller. The image featured has improved since my preliminary task, it is much more of a professional picture and my photoshop skills have improved for taking the background out. Also the information included in my music magazine is much more detailed compered to my fist attempt of making a contents page.

My front cover:

Here is my preliminary task compared to my music magazine front cover:

With both my magazines being for different purposes this makes it hard to compare. Even though they are not the same style you can still see that my music magazine has improved since i done my preliminary front cover. The things improved are things like the photoshop skills with the image, the type of text that is featured, and overall the whole formation is a whole lot better in my second attempt.

All these improvements are because i done a lot more research into magazines and learnt all the conventions that go into a magazine and i made sure i included these throughout my work.
I have learnt how to use photoshop in a more professional way as i have had more experience with it, this has meant that i have been able to improve how my work looks and how it it presented. Overall i feel like i have improved massively since my preliminary task, this has been shown through my work.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

While creating my media product there was several things i had to familiarise myself with so i was able to complete my music magazine to the best of my ability. I already had a basic idea of how most of the technology i used worked but since starting my knowledge has grown massively.

Blogger:

Since the start i have always been using the website 'blogger'. When i was first introduced to it i found it difficult to understand but over time i have developed the knowledge that has allowed me to produce blogs throughout my work and blog what i have been doing. Blogger has helped me to show to progress of my work over the
time i have been working on it.

Apple Mac Computer:

For my work i have always used an apple mac computer. This is because the apple mac has photoshop on and allows me to get access to the other things i need while doing my work. I had never used an apple mac before doing this and along the way i have learnt about the controls and how to navigate my way around an apple mac to complete the work that needed to be completed.

A Canon Camera:

When taking my photos that featured in my magazine i used a canon camera. In the past i had used a camera before but i had never used this type of camera. While using it i had to learn about the way the camera works, this included learning about the settings within the camera for different effects or lighting. Also camera angles were important in taking my pictures so i had to make sure i have the right angles for my pictures to turn out good and for them to be appropriate for a music magazines.

Photoshop:

Photoshop played a big part while creating my magazine. It is the thing that allowed me to actually create my media product. Before this i had never used photoshop before so i was worried that i would not know how to use it. However i got the hang of it quite quickly and i know know how to do things like, take the background out of pictures, add images, and how to add text. If i did not learn how to use photoshop i would have not be able to create my media product.

How did you attract/address your audience?
My front cover:
On my front cover I included conventions that would attract my target audience. Firstly I have used bright colours which will already draw people towards my magazine but to attract my specific target audience of teenage girls I have used purple throughout my magazine, this is known as a 'girly' colour so most girls will be attracted to this colour. In case my target audience does not like the 'girly' colours i added a light blue to my magazine so its not stereotypical.

Another way i used conventions on my front cover to attract my target audience is the image i have used, with my main image being a picture of a teenage girl this could attract girls of around the same age because they can relate to her. Even though my target audience is to girls my image could even attract some boys as well, this is a good thing because i would have a wider audience reading my magazine.

The price of my magazine is also something that would attract my target audience because it is an affordable price for teenagers between the ages of 14-18 years old. This is one of the reasons i made the price clear on my front cover so people could see it at first glance, this is something that may persuade them into buying my magazine because all the other magazines may be too expensive for them.

Lastly the contents of my magazine would attract my audience because i have included bold text letting people know about the well known artists that are featured in my magazine. I picked artists that are popular with my target audience because if they see their favourite artist this may instantly make them want to purchase my magazine. Also i added free posters in m magazine and i made this clear on my front cover, this may attract my audience because the idea of getting something ' free' is something people would be interested in, especially if it involves their favourite artists.

Contents Page:
In my contents page i have kept the same colours that i had on my front cover so the colour of my contents page will still appeal to my audience. I think the colours help the writing to stand out, this means the contents page is easier to read for the audience and they will be able to see what will be in the magazine, this is something that will attract my audience because they know what they will be getting if they purchase this magazine.

I have included what some of the pages in my magazine will have in them, with these pages featuring well known and poplar artists this will attract my audience because these pages will be something that my audience would want to read and know more about so they may be persuaded to purchase my magazine so they can read the full stories in the pages of my magazine.
I also added social media into my contents page by putting a Facebook and twitter name for people to stay in touch with the magazine more. This would attract my audience because social media is a popular thing with my target audience because of the age they are at, social media is  big part of their lives so they may like the idea that my magazine has social media pages to get involved with the magazine more.

Double Page Spread:
On my double page spread i have kept the same colours as i did in the front cover and the contents page. Also i have added bold text to this page, the text in bold is 'Holly Hulse' which is who this double page spread is all about, the other bold text is a quote from the interview with Holly saying "don't underestimate me", this text will attract my audience because it is intriguing to know what Holly is talking about when she says that.

The way i have set out the interview with Holly is an answer then question layout. This layout is easy for my audience to read as my target audience starts from 14 years old. The questions i have asked are the type of questions that my target audience would want to know about.

Evaluation 4

Who would be the audience for your media product?

My target audience for my magazine would be 14- 18 year old teenage girls who enjoy the genre of pop. In my magazine i had added artist that are popular with this target audience, such as Justin Bieber, One Direction and The vamps. The images in my magazine are all of a teenager, this would also relate to my target audience because it is around the same age to them. The price is something my target audience will be able to afford because its not a premium price because my target audience will be in school/collage or may have a part time job, this would mean they wouldn't have a lot of money to just buy magazines. Although my target audience has a wide range of ages most people that age will be interested in the same type of artists and will mostly be interested in pop.

Audience profiles:

Gender: Female
Age: 15
Favourite Artists: One direction, The vamps, Justin Bieber.
Hobbies: Shopping, Singing, playing the piano.

Gender: Female
Age: 18
Favourite Artists: Beyonce, Adele, Taylor Swift.
Hobbies: Dancing, reading, fashion.

Evaluation 1

In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The Title of my magazine

The title of my magazine will be at the top of the page and will stand out because of the bold text and the colours used. When creating my magazine title i wanted it to be a simple word that would catch peoples eye. I think by using a one word title this makes it stand out more and makes it catchy.I have decided my music magazine will be called 'LISTEN' I have chose this because it clearly shows that my magazine is a music magazine because you listen to music. When deciding on the colours of my title i went through different colours and put them up against my background colour and the one that worked the most was black. When my title was just plain black i felt like it didn't look very professional and didn't stand out much so i added a purple glow around each letter because i feel like this is more eye catching and goes well with the background.

My images

Even though all the images in a magazine are important because this is what mainly draws the audiences in the main image of a front cover magazine is the most important image because this is one of the first things a person will see when choosing whether or not they would like to purchase my music magazine. I chose this image for my main image because i think this image is a great choice for my front cover. The way Holly is looking at the camera makes her look professional and serious and this is what I want my magazine front cover to look like, i got this idea from this front cover i found from my style model:

For my contents page i wanted the image to also look serious and professional. I have used a picture of Holly looking away from the camera and looking down. I think this makes the picture look professional and i think this was the best type of picture for the style of my contents page and the way its set out. It also goes well with my background. Here is the image:

For my double page spread i used an image that flows onto the second page, i think this helps the image to stand out and looks natural. My style model has also done this type of thing with the image so thats where i got my inspiration from.

The slogan
slogan is a catchy phrase or series of words used to help consumers remember a company, brand or product. I wanted my slogan to be short and snappy and i wanted to make it clear what my magazine will have featured inside. After thinking about it i decided my slogan will be 'The UK's Top Pop Fix', i chose this because i feel like it flows well and it is short and snappy so this will make it easy for readers to remember. The slogan will be placed at the top of my front cover underneath the title of the magazine. It will be in black to it will stand out over the background used.

The price
My target audience is teens so because of this i decided to price my magazine at £2.50, also this is a similar price to my style model. On my style model they put the price small at the bottom of the page by the barcode where you can't really see it, i didn't want mine to be like that so i changed it and made my price very noticeable by putting it inside a purple circle. I think having the price where people can see it might draw readers in because readers who only have a small amount of money will see that it is at a low price and may decided to pick it up and buy it. I placed the price at the side of my magazine just underneath my slogan and name of the magazine.

The Heading
The font and size of my front cover heading 'listen' is done in a way that most magazine's make their headings look. This is because its a bold text that stands out and would attract readers. Also the colours i used help the heading stand out like other magazines do.

Content
The content i have included in my magazine is similar to other magazines as i have included content that magazines often feature. In my double page spread i done a question and answer interview, this is a very a common thing for a music magazine.
